Contemporary Interior Design - All You Need To Know

If you like an uncluttered look with a simple design and clean lines, you might be fan of contemporary design, but it can be very eclectic as contemporary design follows what is being used or what is currently popular. Contemporary designs are constantly evolving and it can be hard to keep up with it. However, it also allows you to pull in elements from different eras to create a contemporary look.

The contemporary look is minimalist and clean, but functional. The colour palate tends toward light, neutral or pastel colours with a splash of colour thrown in. a contemporary style of decorating is defined by simplicity, subtle sophistication, deliberate use of texture, and clean lines. Interiors tend to showcase space rather than things.

As a leading team of interior designers in Delhi we can state that when it comes to the colour scheme neutrals, black, and white are the main colours in contemporary style interiors. Black and grey are supremely dominant in contemporary interiors. The colours are often combined with bright and bold solid colours in terms of wall finishes or upholstery etc. Tans, beige, pale blues are some other colours which have their presence shown in contemporary interiors.

Open spaces with minimal furniture is very common within a contemporary home. It allows for clean lines and an uncluttered look. The furniture doesn’t have to be any specific design, it should be something that you like. Whether it is a sectional so you and your family can enjoy a movie together or a chair and ottoman set so you can relax and read a good book, any furniture with a contemporary look can work in your design.

Furniture with a contemporary feel is usually low backed covered in fabric with smooth surfaces. It has slim lines, but it isn’t dainty. Furniture in contemporary home decor can range from wood trimmed furniture, with lighter woods like birch or maple, to glass, chrome and stainless steel framed furniture.

Most fabrics that are used within this design scheme are smooth. Whether it is wool, silk, cotton, linen or leather. These fabrics are used for their neutral tones and the texture they have. Any pop of colour comes into the room through a throw rug, a pillow or even a painting on the wall instead of the furniture itself.

Lighting in your design can be funky or artistic, but it should be sleek with mostly straight lines. Floor and table lamps are used as an eye catching piece within a room, giving it a functional, artistic element. Your lamps can be metallic or made from ceramics, but they should have a sleek appearance to fit in with your slim silhouetted furniture. You can work colour into the room through your light element if you desire, but it should be subtle.

Many people confuse contemporary with modern design and eschew the look because they don’t want something sterile looking to live in. However, modern and contemporary designs can be very different. Contemporary home decoration can be drawn from many eras, but modern design reflects what is current and usually has a strict style format that contemporary design does not.

While both styles are similar, contemporary home decorating ideas range from sleek and stark to cozy and warm. You can get an idea for the style by going online and looking at pictures to see what it looks like.
